Graduated Compression Hosiery...
A Medically Proven Life Saver for Over 50 Years

Graduated compression hosiery looks and feels like regular men's or women's hosiery, but from the minute you put them on, you will experience the difference. This hosiery is scientifically designed and expertly knitted to improve and regulate the flow of blood in the legs and back to the heart. Many people routinely wear these stockings and socks simply to relieve tired, aching feet and legs. Others are prescribed graduated compression hosiery by physicians either as a preventive measure for life-threatening conditions such as Deep Vein Thrombosis or as a therapeutic device to relieve chronic swelling (edema) or control the spreading of varicose veins.

How Does Graduated Compression Work?

Compression hosiery is knitted in a variety of regular hosiery yarns: nylon, nylon and cotton, cotton only, etc. Unique to these stockings is the addition of special elastic threads that are utilized to apply a precise amount of pressure to prescribed areas of the leg. As illustrated at the left, compression stockings exert maximum pressure at the ankles and gradually reduce that pressure up the length of the stocking. This compression is scientifically designed to force blood from the secondary venous system near the skin into the primary deep vein system. The resulting increased blood flow prevents back flow and pooling of blood in the deep veins and stimulates the venous pump valves to achieve proper blood flow to the lungs and heart. Graduated compression hosiery is available in four compression categories, each designed for specific conditions.
